ADT runs one of the largest 24/7 monitoring networks in the U.S. — six fully redundant, company-operated centers and ~700 monitoring employees. Quiana Pinckney, VP of Corporate & Brand Communications, explains AVS-01 alarm scoring, Alarm Messenger, and what buyers should ask before choosing a monitoring station.
Inside one of the largest 24/7 monitoring networks in the U.S.
Q: Tell us a bit about ADT — who you serve and what your monitoring operation looks like today.
ADT is a leading provider of security and smart home solutions serving residential and small business customers across the United States. Founded more than 150 years ago and headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, ADT helps protect what matters most through security technology and professional monitoring. We operate one of the largest 24/7 monitoring networks in the U.S., with approximately 700 employees across six fully redundant, company-operated monitoring centers that provide around-the-clock support when every second counts.
Q: What makes ADT different from other monitoring stations? When a customer chooses you over a competitor, what's usually the deciding factor?
ADT is a full-service provider that owns and operates its own monitoring. ADT has six fully redundant, company-operated monitoring centers across the U.S. We're also the first full-service company to implement Alarm Validation Scoring (AVS-01) nationally, which helps first responders make faster, more informed decisions. Our Alarm Messenger feature also allows customers to verify or cancel an alarm in seconds, helping reduce false alarms.
Customers choose ADT because of our combination of experience, innovation and flexibility. We've been helping protect customers for more than 150 years, and today we offer both professionally installed and self-installed security solutions backed by professional monitoring and support.
Q: Who is your ideal customer, and what do you do best for them — the thing that keeps them with you?
We serve residential and small business customers who want peace of mind in protecting what matters most. What sets ADT apart is our combination of trust, monitoring expertise and technology. We've helped protect customers for more than 150 years and operate one of the largest 24/7 monitoring networks in the U.S. Beyond technology, our people are the differentiator, with highly trained monitoring professionals who are there to support customers when it matters most.
Response and resolution
Q: From the moment an alarm is triggered, what's your typical response time — how fast does an operator actually start acting on the signal?
With Alarm Messenger, you get instant notification when your alarm is triggered, with all the information you need to decide whether to seek emergency help. If you need help or are unavailable to access your Alarm Messenger notification, your alarm is escalated to a professional monitoring agent who will notify the appropriate emergency services and/or reach out to the customer to see if they need assistance.
Q: And how about resolution — from alarm to a handled/closed incident, what does a typical timeline look like?
Resolution time is all about ensuring our customers are safe and protected. Resolution time will vary depending on the situation, and we do not close an incident until all required customer and emergency response notifications have been completed.
Video, cameras and false alarms
Q: How easy is it for a customer to add active deterrence (e.g. audio talk-down / warnings) to their service?
ADT offers a variety of video and safety products and features to meet customer needs. From 2-way voice connectivity and remote video monitoring to local video storage solutions, ADT will customize a solution to meet customer needs.
Q: Do you work with multiple camera brands, or are customers tied to specific hardware? How do cameras typically connect to your monitoring centre?
ADT offers a range of solutions to meet customers' protection needs. For residential customers, we primarily offer Google cameras, while small business and custom-home customers can choose from a broader set of video options. Customers may also authorize ADT to view video during an alarm event, with all video stored securely.
Q: How do you keep false alarms down, and how much does video verification help there?
ADT helps reduce false alarms through Alarm Messenger, professional monitoring, and video-enabled alarm scoring. Customers can quickly request emergency response or cancel an alarm with the push of a button. When customers grant video access, ADT Professional Monitoring can use AVS-01 Alarm Scoring to better triage alarms, helping deliver the right response while reducing unnecessary calls for public safety resources.
How ADT works with customers
Q: Can someone buy standalone 24/7 monitoring as a service? And how flexible is it — could someone get monitoring just while they're away on holiday, or is it always a longer commitment?
ADT offers flexible security options, including ADT Professional Monitoring and our new DIY ADT Blu products and services with self-monitored plans. Solutions are tailored to each customer's needs, priorities, and preferences.
Advice to buyers
Q: If someone is shopping for a monitoring station, what should they look for, and what questions should they ask?
ADT is one of the most trusted names in home security, with deep experience, full-service support, and professional monitoring. Buyers should look beyond the product itself and ask the right questions about service, response, and long-term protection.
- Who provides the professional monitoring? Many companies outsource monitoring to third parties. ADT owns and operates its professional monitoring network, giving customers unmatched scale and redundancy.
- What happens when an alarm goes off? Buyers should understand how they will be notified and whether they will have the information needed to request emergency help. ADT alerts customers immediately through Alarm Messenger and gives them control over the response.
- Can the solution grow with your needs? ADT offers full-service sales, service, and professional monitoring, along with a broad suite of protection options, including custom security solutions, private guards, video, intrusion, fire, medical, mobile safety, and more.
